A blend is two or three consonants next to each other where you can still hear each sound. In 'flag,' you hear both /f/ and /l/ at the start.

What does it mean to segment a word?

Segmenting means breaking a word into its individual sounds.. Talk like a robot: /f/ … /u/ … /n/. You just segmented fun.

Is this true? Decoding means using what you know about letters and sounds to read a word.
